Review of content-aware resource allocation schemes for video streaming over wireless networks

چکیده
As wireless technology evolves towards its fourth generation (4G) of development, the prospect of offering multimedia services such as on-demand video streaming and video conferencing to wireless mobile clients becomes increasingly more viable. The eventual success of such applications depends on the efficient management of the limited system resources while taking into account the time-varying wireless channel conditions as well as the varying multimedia source content. In this paper, we review some of the recent advances in cross-layer design schemes, which aim at providing significant gains in performance for video streaming systems through contentaware resource allocation. Advances in both, real-time video streaming, where the video is encoded and transmitted in real-time, as well as, on-demand video streaming, where the video is pre-encoded in a media server, are considered. The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...
متن کاملA QoS Aware Resource Allocation Strategy for 3D A/V Streaming in OFDMA Based Wireless Systems
Three-dimensional (3D) video is expected to be a "killer app" for OFDMA-based broadband wireless systems. The main limitation of 3D video streaming over a wireless system is the shortage of radio resources due to the large size of the 3D traffic. This paper presents a novel resource allocation strategy to address this problem. In the paper, the video-plus-depth 3D traffic type is considered. Th...
متن کاملVbr Video Streaming over Wireless Networks
Video streaming applications over wireless networks have turned out to be immensely popular recently. In this thesis, we first study the buffering schemes for the VBR video streaming in heterogeneous wireless networks. An analytical framework is presented to derive the expected number of jitters and average buffering delay. Through experimenting with a wide range of buffering schemes, we quanti...
